September 27, 2007: Replacing the Back End

I gave blogging software a try a few years back but it proved frustrating to say the least so I gave up on it and wrote my own. After some updates and with new projects on my plate I’ve decided to try again. So without further ado, I present to you the wordpress-based digressed.net v1.1. It took a little time to port the theme over and there are still a few quirks here and there but, overall, it seems to be doing its job. The real test, however, will come once I attempt to post while I travel.

July 25, 2007: Reconnected

Well, it looks like we’re back in business with Broadvoice. In fact, it was like we were never down. Even though SunRocket had closed, the gizmo was still getting calls for days afterward. I signed up with BroadVoice on July 16th, set up forwarding on my SunRocket account that same night and we continued getting calls to our old number as late as this past Monday. I had faxed the number-transfer form to BroadVoice on the 17th and today our transfer was completed so I finally unplugged the gizmo.

It seems we got pretty lucky as other people I know lost service right away. Anyways, if anyone wants a Gizmo, let me know as I might not have any use for ours.

July 17, 2007: Disconnectivity

In case you missed it, our VOIP provider, SunRocket, shut down yesterday. Our line still seemed to work this morning but I’ve gone ahead and started service with BroadVoice and both are connected at the house. If you’re trying to get a hold of us at home and can’t seem to get through, drop us an email or IM and we’ll get you the (hopefully) temporary number while I try to switch my old one over.

Here’s hoping that BroadVoice will stick around for a bit.

August 29, 2006: Half Powered

Well, after testing various combinations of IDE cables, memory modules and such, the server issue seems to have been a result of a bad CPU. At least it’s been up for over two days now which is longer than it’s stayed up over the past two weeks. Fortunately it’s an SMP motherboard so now it’s chugging along with the other processor (and, believe you me, you can tell).

So, anyone have a spare P-III 733 MHz laying around until I can scrounge a little $$ for an upgrade?

August 24, 2006: Hardware Issues

My trusty old server is not being very trustworthy at the moment. I’m trying to track down the issue but I’m also busy with some house remodeling that involves our entire living, dining and kitchen area covered in (dusty) tarp so that has somewhat of a higher priority (my roommates must be loving the heck out of me). Anyways, apologies for the downtime.

Oh and by the way: painting your ceiling sucks.

December 18, 2004: Come get some orange juice, it’s great.

I had some driving time a few weeks ago. As much as I’d love to live in a city where I wouldn’t need a car, there’s something neat about spending time on the road listening to music, enjoying new sights and even using the time to think. City traffic I could never put up with but road trips I itch for once in a while. So I took advantage of a temporary hop between projects that sent me to North Carolina four times between October and November and chose to hit the road the last trek to get a break from planes.

March 11, 2004: No Soup revamped

About a month or so ago Thor pointed out that the University of Florida’s site had been updated and was now the first in the US (and, potentially, the world) to be stylized fully with CSS and, thus, free of formatting with tables. In addition, while it utilizes technologies such as flash for some components, it degrades nicely on systems that do not have them installed. On top of that, as Alex put it, it also looks nice. In all, it’s a beautiful thing and will probably get a lot of attention because of the significance of such a feat.
