Well, let’s say it’s a revolution of sorts. I glance over engadget and tuaw daily and for some time I’ve noticed this annoying trend where a post that covers, say, a product will link it to a tag on their own blog instead of the site of the product itself. For example, tuaw recently covered Quicksilver going open-source. As I read it I thought to myself wow, cool
so I proceeded to click the linked Quicksilver text expecting it to take me to the official Quicksilver site (http://blacktree.com/?quicksilver) to read about the news but instead I ended up on a tuaw page listing all posts tagged quicksilver
(http://www.tuaw.com/tag/Quicksilver/).

Game 1 result: 13-1. Can we just declare the Sox winners and end the season? I guess this makes me officially rooting for the Sox to sweep the series since that would mean only three more days of stupid baseball highlights. Would that be asking too much? I think not.
What kills me is that game 1 has to be on Wednesday. In actuality, I probably should hope for a 5-game series since a sweep would mean Saturday night’s college football coverage is going to be overshadowed by all the world series hoopla surrounding the winner. Do we really need three more nights of highlights? I mean it’s only been, what, 170-plus games since the start of the season?

Football season has all of three weeks left and what a season it’s been. I seriously think the last three minutes of the Florida-South Carolina game cost me three years of my life. Drew and I ended up with tickets stood amidst the Carolina faithful and were screaming our brains out hoping for whatever miracle would grant us a third blocked-kick in the game. In front of us, a Gator couple is putting up with a Gamecock fan obnoxiously reminding us that the kick wins it and that the kicker has already made one from 56 yards out (and while it was called back, he still made. Florida fans can not assume kicks will fly between the uprights this season). I’m hardly paying attention when Drew tells me the husband bets the Carolina fan $400 that the kick won’t go through.

The UK today begins its push for PIN-authorized credit card transactions in favor of the customer signed slip. There have been constant reminders on the media about this so here’s to hoping everyone remembers their PIN tonight when they go to pay for their valentine dinner. And here’s to also hoping for a minimal amount of trouble with foreigners who do not have a clue whether their credit card has a PIN associated with it. Away from this moment in UK financial history, the times that Europe has not been consumed with the current cartoon controversy, they’ve been all eyes on Torino. With that, I give you the following bits courtesy of a few weeks abroad for work:

Four-weeks have passed since we moved to the house and not a day has gone by without me cursing builders, contractors or home-owners in general. It’s amazing how you can see the degradation of home construction through the decades, each time affected by ways the contractors find to save a buck here and there. It’s also amazing what people choose to do to a place. How much do I hate thee? Let me count the ways.

I blame it on a combination of the high heat, the humidity and the stomp lead we hadn’t met thus far this season. It’s the beginning of Fall but Florida provides no hints of pleasant coolness until sometime in October. Needless to say, it was damn hot and it felt hotter than any previous Tuesday or Thursday in the previous few weeks.

I had some driving time a few weeks ago. As much as I’d love to live in a city where I wouldn’t need a car, there’s something neat about spending time on the road listening to music, enjoying new sights and even using the time to think. City traffic I could never put up with but road trips I itch for once in a while. So I took advantage of a temporary hop between projects that sent me to North Carolina four times between October and November and chose to hit the road the last trek to get a break from planes.

The morning was as predicted and a bit cool. I wore jeans, a sweater, scarf and coat and carried a hat in my pocket. It had rained quite a bit by the time we made it out and would turn muggy and uncomfortable as the day warmed up. My jeans were soaked at the bottom making them heavier and dirtier as my walking dragged them around. I was definitely overdressed but it was either carry all the stuff or just wear it and deal with it. I opted for the latter.
