August 4, 2008: Couch potato
I couldn’t say I awoke Friday morning because the reality was that I hardly got any shut-eye the entire night from coughing really bad. My alarm went off and I got Alex up who did the same with the girls. I told him I was out for the day as I was feeling pretty bad and went back to the couch. I finally got some sleep then, for whatever reason because, before I knew it, I was up and never heard them leave. I got up a total of three times and hardly ate anything throughout the day. I caught a bit of Chilean TV but for the most part I slept.
Alex, Liz and Julianne got back around 8 and said the day wasn’t very good on the mountain because it had been snowing pretty bad. Most of the people riding back on their bus had given up and started drinking pretty early on so it was a joyful ride the whole way down even though it took about two hours because of the storm. I didn’t last very long after they got back and crashed while they got ready and went out to eat. About 10pm they came back from Vacas Gordas with a nice piece of salmon and rice for me. I ate about half and hit the sack again this time accounting for the possibility of a cough night with a sudafed PM courtesy of Julianne.
Saturday was pretty much the same for me. The three of them went out for some sightseeing and I sleep all day. I did manage to take a peek out and saw that it was a gorgeous day whether you planned on staying in the city or actually go up to the mountain. Needless to say, I was pretty bitter. We were planning on going back to the mountain on Sunday and I was going to call it a game-time decision. However, once they all got back, Alex mentioned he wasn’t feeling too hot either — for which I felt really really bad. Liz and Julianne decided to go out and find a club but to not stay out too late
. Alex and I crashed early and I heard the girls come in around what must have been 4 or 5am.
