October 25, 2007: Barring a miracle..

Game 1 result: 13-1. Can we just declare the Sox winners and end the season? I guess this makes me officially rooting for the Sox to sweep the series since that would mean only three more days of stupid baseball highlights. Would that be asking too much? I think not.

What kills me is that game 1 has to be on Wednesday. In actuality, I probably should hope for a 5-game series since a sweep would mean Saturday night’s college football coverage is going to be overshadowed by all the world series hoopla surrounding the winner. Do we really need three more nights of highlights? I mean it’s only been, what, 170-plus games since the start of the season?

One hundred and seventy plus games, folks. That’s basically half a year. Think about this: in college football, a team usually plays 13-15 games per season if they’re good. 13-15 days on the field means they’ve played a game a measly 4% of the year. Baseball, on the other hand, treats its fans to teams like the Cubs with a record just above .500 who lost only seventy-seven games (and still managed to make it into the world series!). Seventy-seven games? If you’re not keeping count, that means Cubs fans watched their team lose almost one quarter of 2007! And they were the cream of the crop out of the NLCS meaning there are five other teams with fans that fared worst! Is this really necessary? Do fans really like to watch their team lose that much? I don’t think so.

Come on, someone. Win the damn thing.
